Agriculture and Rural Development

Grazie ad un budget di 70,2 milioni di Euro, sono 18 i progetti finanziati e gestiti dalla Sede AICS di Tirana per lo sviluppo rurale dei Balcani Occidentali.

The Agriculture and Rural Development sector is one of the AICS Tirana’s main areas of intervention, with 20 ongoing initiatives worth approximately €72 million, specifically:

  • 12 grant projects for a total amount of €24.1 million in Albania;
  • 3 grant projects in Bosnia and Herzegovina for a total amount of €7.9 million;
  • 5 soft loan projects for a total amount of €40 million in Albania.

The sector supports the implementation of the followin activities:

  • Institutional technical assistance for compliance with the European acquis communautaire regarding the Chapters 11, 12, and 13 of Cluster 5 “Resources, Agriculture and Cohesion“;
  • Economic empowerment of women involved in agriculture in Northern Albania;
  • Enhancement of typical local products, supporting small-scale producers in improving yields, sustainability, and quality;
  • Promoting vocational training in agriculture through infrastructural projects and updating educational curricula;
  • Strengthening fishermen’s associations and the fisheries sector organization in Albania;
  • Conserving plant biodiversity and protecting native livestock breeds in Bosnia and Herzegovina;
  • Developing organic farming through monitoring and marketing support.
