The Italian Cooperation experienced a significant moment during the historic summit between the Meloni and Rama governments held today, November 13th, in Rome. Albania’s path to European Union accession, also supported by Italy through its development cooperation program, is consolidated and hardly focused on 2028, the ambitious deadline that Albania intends to complete the process of adapting to the acquis communautaire required by the Union.

Five documents have been signed by the two governments to promote development cooperation initiatives and partnerships, which AICS Tirana office helped prepare:

1) Project Agreement for a €30 million soft loan “Support for the creation of a civil protection system in Albania

2) Project Agreement for a €5 million grant to the Albanian Civil Protection Agency (AKMC) entitled “Strengthening civil protection capacities in Albania“;

3) Tripartite Declaration of Intent between the Albanian Civil Protection Agency, the Italian Civil Protection Agency, and the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation for the establishment of a Coordination Table;

4) Project Agreement for a €4 million grant to the Ministry of Health and Welfare entitled “Improving Maternal and Neonatal Health in Albania – MATHERNA (ANMA component)

5) Financial agreement for the €35 million soft loan “Improvement of the electricity distribution network in northern Albania after the 2019 earthquake“.
