The groundbreaking and building permit ceremony for the construction of the Ars Aevi Museum of Contemporary Art, whose executive design was funded by AICS Tirana with a contribution of €150,000, were held. The ceremony was attended by Marco di Ruzza, the Italian Ambassador to Sarajevo, Siniša Šešum, Director of the UNESCO Office in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Benjamina Karić, and representatives of Sarajevo’s cultural circles.
Designed by Renzo Piano, the Ars Aevi Museum is intended not only to house the eponymous contemporary art collection but also to become a leading conference center for the Balkan region, thanks to a Trust Fund coordinated by UNESCO to raise the necessary funds for construction and installation. The project also includes a thorough assessment of the collection to ensure the restoration, conservation, and preservation of the works and archives, in collaboration with leading Italian institutions.
Special attention will be paid to strengthening the institutional and professional capacities of the Museum staff, the inclusion of women artists and marginalized groups, and ensuring a fair and diverse representation of various artistic expressions. Finally, the project envisions developing the technical skills necessary for conservation and restoration, ensuring that the collection continues to reflect a variety of artistic genres and styles.
