Ambassador Marco Alberti met in Tirana with Kamal Kishore, Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Disaster Risk Reduction.
At the centre of the meeting, which was also attended by Annamaria Iotti, Director of AICS Tirana, was the importance of joint action to prevent natural disasters in the Western Balkans, and particularly in Albania. This is a highly topical issue that requires urgent and concrete action.
Kishore highlighted the value of cooperation between Italy and the United Nations aimed at strengthening disaster resilience in the region.
The senior UN official expressed his appreciation to Italy for its contribution through the project “Strengthening Cross-Border Disaster Risk Management Capacity and Early Warning Systems in the Western Balkans”, funded by AICS.
“Disasters happen and, unfortunately, will continue to occur,” Ambassador Alberti stressed. “Multi-stakeholder cooperation with UNDRR in this area,” the Ambassador continued, “responds to the concrete and everyday need to strengthen the resilience of territories and communities, thereby saving lives.”
