My name is Stefania Vizzaccaro and since the end of 2021 I represent the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS) in the Western Balkans. AICS has the executive task of managing the cooperation initiatives financed by Italy in Albania, Bosnia - Herzegovina, Kosovo, North Macedonia and Serbia.
Law 125/2014 has established AICS as technical cooperation agency of the Italian Government, providing a mandate of great responsibility to our staff. The first article declares: "International cooperation for sustainable development, human rights and peace, hereinafter referred to as 'development cooperation', is an integral and qualifying part of Italy's foreign policy. It is inspired by the principles of the Charter of the United Nations and the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union. Its action, in accordance with the principle referred to in Article 11 of the Constitution, contributes to the promotion of peace and justice and aims to promote solidarity and equality between peoples founded on the principles of interdependence and partnership."
We are fully aware that we are bringing Italian and European highest values in the Western Balkans. Our action is inspired by effectiveness and transparency criteria. Working alongside the National Governments, we do promote intergovernmental dialogue for sustainable development of local communities, promotion of peace and human rights, the overall European integration of the region.
In the Western Balkans, we are committed to support local communities and national entities in the sector of Human Rights, Justice, Healthcare, Civil Protection, Culture, Education, Environment, Sustainable Tourism, Agri-food. A better quality of life in the Western Balkans, in line with European standards, is a certainty of development and stability in the medium and long term also for Italy and Europe.
