AICS supports the prevention and improvement of intervention capacity in case of civil emergencies and natural disasters in Albania

The Director of the AICS Office in Tirana, Stefania Vizzaccaro, the Head of the Department of Civil Protection of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, Fabrizio Curcio, and the Civil Protection Service of the Metropolitan City of Florence, signed the Operational Agreement for the initiative “Realisation of a National Civil Emergency Operations Centre of the Albanian National Civil Protection Agency”.

The Agreement, financed by the Italian Cooperation, aims at supporting the Albanian National Civil Protection Agency (AKMC), through the organisation of the National Operations Centre for Civil Emergencies, the realisation of training courses for the operators of the Centre and for the AKMC personnel in the headquarters and in the peripheral offices. The initiative also includes a technical assistance component in risk prevention, adapting the Agency’s software in order for it to assess in real time the impact of seismic events. The AKMC will also be assisted in drafting the Civil Protection Plan for the Municipality of Tirana.

The initiative will be implemented by the Civil Protection Department of the Italian Prime Minister’s Office, with the involvement of the Civil Protection Service of the Metropolitan City of Florence.

The modernisation of the Civil Protection system and the improved effectiveness in prevention will allow to better face civil emergencies and natural disasters, while ensuring the protection of Albanian citizens.

The project strengthens the partnership between Italy and Albania, and is also in line with the sectoral priorities of the Albanian Government and the strategies defined by the European Union as part of the country’s accession process.
